To achieve her goals, she uses her abilities to gain knowledge from everything around her, and so triumphs against the odds and grows into a successful and independent businesswoman. Iris recalls interesting moments in her life and of her milieu, painting an intimate, realistic portrait of her life in Slovenia, the former Yugoslav republic, from the middle to the end of the 20th century, a tumultuous time of historical changes.

The author writes under the pseudonym Iris Novak. She was born in 1953 in the northern part of the then Yugoslavia. She acquired her MA in Management and PhD in Librarianship. She worked in international business and in librarianship, was the director of a school for foreign languages and finally established her own business. The author lives in Slovenia, is married and has three children.
